Micro-polarized sensors for impossible measurements
This case study highlights how 4D Technology used Sony’s IMX250 polarization sensor-via FRAMOS-to perform ultra-precise optical measurements even under motion and vibration.
"With micro-polarized sensors, precision doesn't stop when the system moves."

Measuring transparent materials and optical surfaces at sub-nanometer levels-especially in motion-was once considered impossible. 4D Technology changed that with dynamic interferometry powered by micro-polarized sensors. By switching from custom imaging arrays to Sony’s on-chip polarization sensor (IMX250), sourced through FRAMOS, 4D gained both performance and cost efficiency.
The IMX250 enables frame-accurate polarization angle detection at 0°, 45°, 90°, and 135°, eliminating the need for frame-stacking and dramatically reducing vibration sensitivity. Combined with 4D’s patented algorithms, this solution now supports applications in industrial QA, astronomy, lens manufacturing, and scientific research.
