Spectral Imaging in the age of AI, an R&D perspective

Spectral imaging is gaining momentum across industries, with market forecasts predicting steady growth in the years ahead. Applications like food sorting and recycling are already benefiting from this powerful technology — and artificial intelligence is expected to unlock even more possibilities.

  • At ImagingNext 2025, Alexander Gatto will explore spectral imaging from a research and development perspective. His session reflects on why this technology is so valuable across diverse fields, what unique benefits it offers when combined with AI, and what core challenges still need to be addressed.

From Research to Real-World Impact: Where Spectral Imaging Fits

Rather than focusing on one specific application, this talk takes a step back to examine the broader value of spectral imaging. Why is it useful in so many different domains? What makes it a strong candidate for AI-enhanced solutions? And what technical or practical obstacles still stand in the way?

About the Speaker: Alexander Gatto

Alexander Gatto holds diploma in Physics and Computer Science at the University of Tübingen. PhD in Physics in the field of Quantum Optics at the University of Bonn. Entered Sony 2011 at the Stuttgart Technology Center, Germany. Currently being there a Senior Manager in R&D with a focus on Spectral Imaging Technologies.

At ImagingNext, Alexander brings a research-driven perspective on emerging imaging technologies — making his session a must-attend for anyone exploring the future potential of spectral imaging in AI-driven applications.
