Event-Based Vision for Drone Navigation, Detection, and cUAS

Imagine a drone flying at high speed, weaving through obstacles and reacting instantly to its surroundings — all without missing a single detail. Event-based vision changes everything by capturing only what matters, faster and more efficiently than ever before.

  • At ImagingNext 2025, Christoph Posch, will introduce the fundamentals of event-based vision and explain why it’s transforming high-speed computer vision applications. From precise drone navigation to effective visual detection and tracking of UAVs, Christoph’s session will showcase how this technology improves flight control, GPS-denied navigation, and interception capabilities.

From Sensor Innovation to Real-World Drone Applications

This talk goes beyond theory, exploring the unique characteristics of event-based sensors — including their ability to capture sparse, high-speed data with a wide dynamic range. Christoph will demonstrate how these advantages translate into real improvements for drone flight control and unmanned aerial systems (cUAS), especially in scenarios where speed and accuracy are critical.

About the Speaker: Christoph Posch

Christoph Posch (Co-Founder & CTO) has 25 years of experience in semiconductor research and industry with a focus on integrated CMOS circuits for sensing, imaging, artificial vision and analog data processing. After working on microelectronics design for high-energy physics experimentation at CERN, Geneva (CH) and Boston University, Boston (US) from 1996 to 2004, he helped founding the Smart Sensors group at Austrian Institute of Technology in Vienna (AT) where he was promoted to Principal Scientist in 2007.

From 2012 he codirected the Neuromorphic Vision group at the Institut-de-la-Vision in Paris (FR) and was appointed Research Professor at Sorbonne University, Paris 6. In 2014 he co-founded Prophesee and since then serves as the company’s CTO. Christoph Posch received M.Sc. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Vienna University of Technology in 1995 and 1999. He has been recipient of multiple scientific awards, has authored more than 100 scientific publications and holds 15+ patents in the areas of artificial vision, neuromorphic engineering and human vision restauration.

At ImagingNext, Christoph brings cutting-edge expertise in event-based vision combined with practical insights into drone navigation and UAV detection — making his session a must-attend for anyone interested in the future of high-speed, intelligent aerial systems.
