Embracing grief and celebrating memories: My journey with  “Dein Sternenkind”

In 2012, my son passed away just 30 minutes after birth. This profound loss taught me the immense value of photographs for parents who have lost their children early. These photos serve as crucial support through all phases of grief, providing tangible evidence that our little ones existed. The work done by “Dein Sternenkind” offers parents these precious memories, captured beautifully by professional photographers who ensure the images can be shared without causing distress.

“Dein Sternenkind” is dedicated to photographing babies who have passed away or are expected to pass away soon. The photographers volunteer their time and resources to create lasting memories for grieving parents, covering all costs themselves. They must act quickly to capture these moments, often entering emotionally imbued environments filled with sadness and grief.

Grief and death are topics our society struggles to address, especially when it involves the loss of a baby. Many people mistakenly believe that the loss of a baby is less significant than the loss of an older child. However, organizations like “Dein Sternenkind” highlight the profound impact of such losses and provide essential support to parents. By raising awareness, we can foster a more compassionate society that acknowledges and supports all forms of grief.

I volunteered as a photographer for “Dein Sternenkind” for two years. This work was incredibly fulfilling, as I witnessed the gratitude from parents, midwives, doctors, and nurses.

During my time with “Dein Sternenkind,” I was amazed by the dedication of the volunteers. Photographers would travel hundreds of kilometers, often at night, to capture these precious moments without any financial compensation. The organization’s structure ensures that requests from parents or hospitals are handled efficiently. Additionally, their mentor program for new photographers provides essential support, helping them navigate their first assignments with confidence.

I believe that grief and death should be handled more openly in our society, including in the workplace. FRAMOS’s support for “Dein Sternenkind” means a great deal to me. The company’s understanding and support during my grieving process after my son’s death were invaluable. I am proud to work for a company that acknowledges and supports such important emotional experiences.
